Has anyone built their own bedframe like they do on home improvement shows? I have thought of trying that. Any ideas? Where can I find out some specifications?

I don't know of a how-to or a guide for this... it's really just a basic frame... wood would be a lot easier to work with, where steel will be stronger. Obvisouly.
I like a nice well made wood frame. Feels more comfortable.
Get some 2x4's, sand em down and smooth all corners and edges down. Stain accordingly and bolt em together. I'll be beautiful.

i used 2x4's for the frame (and cross-beam's). and smaller dimension for the lower support. the area for the mattress was measured just a few inches larger than a twin-size mattress. the matress was supported by 2x4's spaced ~10in apart.
