I double checked the seating of all of the components. Double checked the jumpers. The proc is latched in there securely.

Does the face of the 4 prong hole that the plug goes in to look like this: (sorry, no digi camera at my house right now)

Yeah, it's a 2x2 plug. It was added to the ATX spec later because the Pentium 4's require so much power, they get their own plug. Your power supply should have a matching plug.

:goodjob: you're friggn awesome, dood!!! I plugged that thing in and turned it on at it works. At least it sounds like it's working. I heard one of those boot-up beeps

I gotta steal this monitor and hook it up to the new comp, to see whats going on, so :wavey:

You always get 1 beep as it boots to tell you its' okay. I've noticed with this MB, you also get 1 beep for each USB device that's plugged in. I get one for both my keyboard and mouse and an extra one if I leave my gamepad plugged in. Hope the OS goes on easy.

damn. it keeps freezing. sometimes it freezes when the "p4p800e" screen is on, sometimes when the "scanning ide devices" and sometimes after i put in the win xp pro cd:thinking:

what can be causing that:thinking:?

check bios settings.. som mobos have quirks that conflict when certain bios features are enabled. check the ASUS website for an FAQ on that particular board.

edit: nevermind.. just looked there

in my lab they told me i can only use zip disks. (files were to big for floppy)

2 days later. you can use usb flash drives too. after spending $10 on a stupid disk.

which power supply are you using with this motherboard? it may be too underpowered even though the wattage is up there. did the same thing with my new motherboard and my comboed case/psu. computer just randomly bluescreened until i got a new psu

i think the ps is more than sufficient. its a 420w antec. i'm only running 1 hdd, 1 dvd drive, vid card, sound card, 4 case fans, heatsink fan, and motherboard:dunno:
