Default Major Internet Issues Help!!

OK recently my connection has gotten worse and worse. I use a wireless router from Lynksys and for the most part untill recently it has worked with minimal issues. Well recently I started losing connection costantly. AIM would constantly be closing it's self down and pages would never open. Yesterday i got on the phone with Linksys because are connection had stopped working completly. After a few hours on the phone with tech support it came down to the router it self exsperiencing some error which was not able to be corrected and the technicion suggested a short may have occured. ANYWAYS sence the router decided to die i had to connect the modem directly to the computer once again. This has led to another crop of problems. When the net works its EXTREMLY slow but most often it will not work. Any help with getting my cable connection working again would be really helpfull and thank you for reading my rant.

And we all know cable companys just LOVE to provide tech support for equipment they didn't provide or install. See if you have spyware, and eradicate all of it.

problems when connecting directly to the modem.. hmmmm... have you reset the modem? if so, call your cable company. it's their job to provide a service. even if they didn't supply the modem, they are still required to provide tech support. if they don't, ask to speak with someone who can. i wound up speaking with a network engineer for adelphia after their tech support was unhelpful and that guy was awesome. network engineers usually don't have much to do.
