*really*try asking your supervisor, if hes cool and he probably had some experiance in delivering food so he might have some pointers, it never hurts to ask.

You're right, drivers should not ask at the door about tips.
It's amazing the little tricks you can use to turn a nontipping customer into a regular and tipping customer.
You should ask your manager, area supervisor, and district manager for help with this if it is a big problem in a Papa Johns store.

Pizza - usually around 20% or so of the cost. For instance we got pizza for dinner yesterday and the total came to 16.xx and we gave the guy a 20 and left. We might be poor college kids but we understand the pizza guys are in the same boat.

They'll stand around the dispatching manager and try to hustle three or four orders when it's obvious that they should really only be taking one or two.
They only get a tip out of the first and second orders, and the third and fourth orders are too late and too cold to get a good tip.
Another way they screw themselves is showing up for work looking like every father's worst nightmare.
If you show up at the door looking and acting like somebody I'm not going to let my daughter (or son) go out with, you're not going to get a good tip!
LOL....
If you want to make good tips, you have to lose a little of that self expression.
Talking about pizza delivery people, here is one of those funny at the moment stories. One of the guys in our little circle of friends is this very quiet guy, usually the rest of us are loud mouths and openly talk about an attractive woman if we see one. So this one time we ordered pizza and it was his turn to get it from downstairs where the delivery person was. He comes back and he goes: "Damn that delivery girl was really hot." The whole room fell silent for a good while and that was the day we realized he was human.
