If there was a press release describing the arrest of a suspected terrorist, you would buy it. I'm not saying the government is lying to us (at the moment), but the attitudes of many Americans could potentially facilitate the acceptance of govt action and propaganda while minimizing the urge to critically consider the facts.

Disliking the president and hating the US are two entirely different concepts. I, for one, can't stand the bastard, and I hope he rots in hell. But I love the United States, and I will do my best to protect it, especially from the president. I am doing my best to fight from within the system to prevent him from destroying the country I hold dear.

You call them violent, and they may be (although none of us can make that call since we haven't seen them). But even so, it is an artistic protest, not a threat of violence.

Can you say that and be 100% sure? Would you risk your family's lives on this kid not being part of a terrorist cell? I wouldn't. People thought John Hinckley was just running off at the mouth when he was stalking Jodie Foster, but he tried to kill Reagan jsut like his "artistic" outlet said he would.

your post led me to believe that you think the threat of terrorism is an unfounded fear.

yes. that is a risk I am willing to take. I think the moment the freedom of expression succumbs to government fear, the very purpose of our country has been betrayed.

You may disagree. If so, then thats just a fundamental difference in our beliefs :dunno:

Sec. 871. - Threats against President and successors to the Presidency

(a)

Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

The kid said it's an "effigy", but why would you go to the possible suspect and ask him to make a ruling on the situation. It's like going to a thief and taking his word that he was just there to do some organizing. Obviously, the drawings alarmed an instructor and the FBI. If the kid wants to play political games, he needs to follow the rules and not cry "foul play" when he breaks the law.
