The club is used because it is the logical choice of weapons for this job. They use rifles as well but probably in very limited amounts and even then it doesn't guarantee the animal is dead when I sell them to the furriers

seals..are slow. they arent going to make it very far. People use rifles to kill deer...deer are fast as hell...but somehow, my ex's family still seems to bring home at least 2 deer per male (3) every season...
as much as i hate to say this...they cant do in Canda like we do here with deer, bear, elk, etc...and kill for sport? instead of having the govt. do it the inhumane way, civilians can do it for sport?...i didnt read the article because i know id sit here and cry, so that may have been covered already. :dunno:

I don't mean any of my comments as shock value at all but not being there and not in those circumstances no one can make the call of what they would do. These people live in remote parts of the country and jobs are just not available.
I worked for a farm and skinned mink for a living for several months. It stank and it was not pretty at all but it was what I had to do to make money so I did it. The second I got a different job offer I was out of there that day. Although the other job payed much less, I had no moral objections to it.
If you could see how they kill off mink to get the fur you would be twice as shocked as this. They gas them en masse...you ever watched something suffocate besides a fish? Screaming and writhing and sometimes biting each other while gasping for air....it isn't pretty at all but it pays damn good money.

We are talking efficiency both financially and laborwise. If I have to walk an extra 1/4 mile to get my next seal it devaluates the financial gain and also makes that much more work for it.
This is not for sport at all but is a business and if you can't see it that way then you just will never understand it at all.

i dont know how it is where you live...but deer are everywhere here...so usually the 1st day, they have a deer. and they dont walk more than a mile from their trucks to get that deer. and they see the most deer before noon..so it doesnt take a week of walking 4 miles into the woods and sitting for 10 hours to get 3 deer...
and youre right, i wont ever understand it..because its inhumane in my eyes and heart..and no explanation will ever change that.. i value life of all kinds...i ran off the road once so i wouldnt hit a damn squirrel. i KNOW that isnt the only job available in Canada...there's other ways to make money and feed your family.
sorry, its just unacceptable and uncalled for IMO.

I have been in the John Morrell plant several times and thats something else.
The pigs are hung upside down and there throats are slit. If you ever heard a pig sqeal its not something you want to hear, when there throats are slit its worse. If riggle and try to get free, its bad when one fall cus you have to hook it back on and they are very heavy and will kick. The blood is drained into tanks and go somewhere( I think to get processed with feed). But the guys who do it everyday, dont mind. They get paid very well.
