Tranny's are the biggest problem with DSM's. When you raise the boost level, the tranny's have a huge problem dealing with any sort of power increase/load on them.

They also detonate rather easily when you start screwing with it.

Keep it stock, and it'll probably be fine.

Like any generalization that spreads across the internet, people overexaggerate the transmission problems that DSMs have. High powered awd launches tend to be rather abusive on the transmission, which is why so many of them fail. These are production cars we're talking about, Mitsu didn't necessarily design them to stand up to constant drag racing.

That said, the last time I drove a Talon TSi AWD, it kind of felt like being in a squished version of a Chrysler minivan with a turbo. :chuckles:

if you want a no jokes car that you can mod the piss out of get a 94 eclipse GSX they dont have the anoying crank walk issue and there blocks are strong as hell and they come stock with the 14b (bigger then stock 2g turbo) and a big 16g turbo upgrade bolts right on. Its true that these cars have issues (just sold mine) but there fun cars.

Actually, there is one question that hasn't yet been asked. What do you plan to do with the car Spitz? All we know is that you want it to be cheap enough to buy it straight out or pay for most of it. But are you looking for a drag car? An autocross car? A track car? A boulevard cruiser? A utility machine?

It was a 2nd gen. The dash was really deep, I couldn't see the front of the car, and the suspension felt like it was riding pretty high off the ground.
