new car decision
ok i need some really really good solid, and logical points on buying a new car.
heres the info, use the info and come up with something
the deal is i'm not buying a new car but my parents are. even though we're asian, we're not all rich. "ie rich enough to just dump 60 k on a new bmw" or something.
we used to drive a chevrolet malibu sedan 1981 and recently someone hit us from behind and well its time to get a new car.
final option was that we got 1000 from the insurance and no car, and since my parents are buying a new car. they're getting a 2002 malibu sedan. i've tried to talk them out of buying a domestic car. but since they have a gm card with 3k extra, and 2k from insurance and education graduated bonus and 0% financing right now, its pretty much sold to them.
the car comes with regular stuff v6 and around 170 hp and i guess for about 20 000 (2k discount from the dealer for 4 more days) canadian and after the discounts and stuff my parents are looking at 15 000 + taxes.
ive tried to talk them into buying a honda or something but the "civic" is around 16 000 Canada for the basesed model coming with ONLY radio. plus 6.8% financing and its only a pretty small economy car plus it would be another 1000 to get an auto tranny.
I've tried to tell them that when buying a new car. money shouldn't be the only factor. and i even told them all my reasons like i would be able to fix a honda if something did go wrong, slower depreciationg of car value. cheaper replacement parts etc. i'm all out.
there's also a 2k discount on the 2002 model which ends in a few days 4 days so i need something really quick or else i'll be looking at a 2002 malibu.
actually i don't really mind cause i've got my civic but i'm thinking someones going to have to inherit that car right?

ok maybe i should have been more clear about this. my parents aren't going to spend anything over 20 k and thats canadian so thats like umm 13 k for you american fellows? i don't think the 2k civic ex falls under 13 k. and my parents are pretty bent on buying a new car because they can get thier 3k credit from the gm credit card they've been saving for the last 10 years.
Tell them to look up the true cost of owning.
The Malibu might seem like a better deal right now, but maintainence over the next 10 years will probably be more. The Civic will be more fuel efficient than that american V6, therefore saving you a good amount in gas money over the next 10 years. Civics don't depreciate as quickly as other cars, so if you have to sell the car later, then the civic will get you more money back. Also, go compare insurance rates to see if the civic would be less. Remember, the true cost of owning is the real number you guys should be looking at.
And after you have convinced them to get the civic, go to www.edmunds.com to look up what invoice price on a civic is. Then add a few hundres to this number, take it to a few different dealers toward the end of the money, and see if they'll close the deal.

Hey! I'm asian...why am I not rich
i actualy think the malibu is a good choice.. and not all domestic cars are bad (yup thats rigth i said it) it could be WAY worse.. they COULD want a ford focus.... i say let them have the malibu... its not like they are gonna beat on it.. and it probably has some rediculously SICK warranty like MOST new cars.. so why even care.. adn if they are JUST getting rid of an 81.. and it is 2002 well why even care about inheriting it.. LMFAO.. i hope you will have enough of a life in 21 years to buy your own new car.. even if you are only 16 now.. you will be almost 40 then.. lol
