Default im being sued!! legal help!!

ok so my ex brother-inlaw is sueing me because this computer im typing in right now was purchased with his credit when he and my sister were married!! he is sueing me for $2,500 which is more than what the computer was purchased for in the first place!! my question is can he sue me for more than the original amount of the computer?? and also i dont have anything to worry about because the computer is payed off anyway, so im not really worried as to what the judgment might be, i have the reciepts of payments and everything!! or can he still get money out of me or can he win this case?? ive never been sued before so i dont know what the outcome might be!! i think my best bet is to start watching all them court shows (ex. judge judy, judge joe brown etc.) and learn how not to make a dumbass out of myself in court!!

P.S. one last question can i do anything back to him for making me loose a days work?? also i was supposed to recieve a $200 rebate in the mail (which was adressed to his house) which he recieved and did who knows what with the money!!

someone ever been sued?? what should i expect??

Did you buy the computer from him, or does he still own it?
If he still owns it, give it back.

He can sue you for however much he wants, the question is whether he'll win the judgement. It sounds as though he bought the computer though, so he does have a legitimate claim on it unless it was a gift or the court gave it to your sister.

I'd suggest getting a lawyer to at least go over your case...and all the stuff you see on Judge Judy is made for TV so I wouldn't worry too much about watching those shows.

in court it's not what's true or what the truth is. only thing that matters is what you can prove. again consult a lawyer.
