Black history month
What do u think about it? our BSU (black student union) organized a performance that includes ppl from South Africa. All they did was dance and teach us stuff that we already know... US history is almost all about racism and im getting sick and tired of it, cant we just go on in life? anyways, whats your feedback on it?
Those who do not know their past are doomed to repeat it.
Can't remember who said that but it partially plays in here for the simple fact that keeping the cruel treatment of a people in mind prevents it from happening again. It makes it such a horrible act in peoples eyes that there is no way they would tolerate to sit by and ever let it happen again.
I think it is a good thing that there is a black history month for just that reason.

Now here is an example of why your original post rubbed me the wrong way...
What if they had a Chinese history month or Mexican history month....would you feel as annoyed about it as you do about Black History month? Would the displays of cultural heritage be viewed different by you in this case?

Another problem with this is that you couldn't have an American student Union really because people of all nationalities are what make up this country and not just white people. and since there really isn't all that much history behind America (being a new country and all) there really isn't any cultural heritage to pass along except folk lore and music which has been a conglomeration from other cultures anyways.

hmmm...no, i dont feel annoyed by a chinese or mexicano history month, i think americans do enjoy it (like when i went to chinese new yr parade, it was mainly made up of white ppl). I dont really know what to think right now. i have a way diff opnion right now but i dont want to state it because ill get flamed at.
Heres another question I have been meaning to pose that may bring some thought to this topic.
The use of racial slang or terms has evolved through the years and some are acceptable and some are not. so that being the case we refrain from use of words such that would be racially inflective such as the "N" word, the countless terms regarding Jewish people, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc.
So that being what it is does that make the terms Honky, white boy, redneck etc. equally as offensive? I mean you wouldn't use these terms replacing white boy with say Chinese by would you?

i guess, that wouldnt make sense calling someone a chinese if he was white. ppl call me a ch*nk, i dont care because it just doesnt offend me. Words are just how you see them as. Fawk doesnt mean anything unless you want it to...
but its not polite to use those derogatory terms. what ethnicity are you?
