windows XP people....gather 'round
:hugglez:
how can i set this up?
i have:
A- 60gig harddrive (OS)
B- 120gig harddrive
C- 40gig harddrive
D- DVD-ROM
E- CDRW
drives A and B are on one IDE cable (ultra DMA100?)
drives D and E are on another IDE cable
i want to put in drive C. on my motherboard, there seems to be another slot that a 3rd IDE cable would fit into. can i just plug in drive C onto the 3rd IDE cable?
i tried taking out one of the optical drives and putting drive C in its place, but i get a "missing NTLDR" upon bootup. and it tells me to reboot.
thanks.

OK have any idea what motherboard your computer has? Normally motherboard only have 2 IDE ports(for 4 drives all together) and one for floppy drives. If you dont have an extra slot, you can always go buy an EIDE PCI card for $20(which will allow you to connect 4 more drives I think)

the C: drive has to be on the primary IDE cable, connected as Master. Most motherboards only have 2 IDE connectors (2 cables with 2 devices on each)...so you could only hook up 4 IDE devices at one time. To hook up a fifth, you'd need to buy and IDE controller card (a PCI card with IDE connectors.)

I think the 2 of those are for a RAID setup...the ones that say Promise IDE under them. Don't know if they'd work as just regular IDE connectors, though. :dunno:
anyway, the C: drive would have to hook up to the opposite end of the IDE Cable that's hooked up to the blue connector that says "Primary IDE"
