Any Idea Why Honda's Are So Prone to Rust in the 1/4 Panel?

90-93 Accords are prone to rust around the rear quarterpanel wheel well. My car was bought in Houston in 93 and now resides in Dallas. Texas registration all 10 years. Little spots of rust on the quarterpanel covered by touch-up paint. Must be a drainage issue. No bueno.

My Accord has that problem too, but not only that, the chassis is also rusted out pretty bad.

I always liked the look of the 4th Gens, but thats one reason why im glad i bought my 5th Gen instead; I doubt it'll end up rusting anytime soon.

it's basically all accords 90-97, 92-96 ludes, 92-95 civic, and acuras. it's due to the weather stripping trapping in dirt and salt.

my CRX rusts in the rear quarters.

From what i've heard. there are some weather strips that go along the wheel well, and they trap moisture, and it will eventually start rusting along that lip, then it just spreads from there.

That's my first mod on ALL my CRXs, rip those biatches out. thats also a good way to check for rust, pull it away some and see if its rusted in there, or starting, so you can get an idea of what you have ahead of you

ok so if the weather stripping is the cause of it... why not just rip it off? What damange will that do? Is it really bad to NOT have it there? Should it be replaced with a new one?

^you can rip it off, but for most the damage has already been done.

on my car i still have it, but i peeled it back at the edges so it doesn't trap dirt and so far i'm ok, but i do have rust on my lower wheel wells on the thin little piece after the rear doors.

I'm getting mine done in two weeks.

They said they wouldn't reinstall the weather stripping.

yea.. just yank em out, thats what i did.

it just leaves the metal lip exposed.

and depending on if the car has started to rust will determine how bad it will look or whatever.

my DX you peeled it back and half of the metal lip was already GONE!

my Black Si still had just about brand new looking metal under the stripping, a smidge of surface rust, but fixable

the Red Si i have is a little worse, but i got that fixed from the body shop

any my GFs CRX has NO RUST at all

so it will depend, but i wouldn't replace it, just remove it and try to stop the rust from spreading anymore
