Default This sucks

So I'm coming home after work, and I take a detour to Sear's Hardware to pick up some jacks+jackstands. On the way back home, I'm doing about 50mph, and I change lanes.

I saw what looked like a medium sized cardboard box right in the center of the road, and it came way too quick for me to avoid it. All of a sudden I hear two loud bangs, and the car is jolted upwards twice. It turned out that this "box" was indeed a large solid object.

One second later the car starts pulling to the right hard, and I'm now cursing to myself like crazy thinking that my suspension has been severly damaged. I manage to safely pull over and inspect the "damage."

I walk over to the right side of the car, and the only damage I saw were 2 flat tires. Since I had 2 flats and only 1 spare, I call my dad to bring over 2 of my 15" stock wheels from home (4 miles away).

Once he arrives, we start swapping over both of the right wheels. I notice that there was another Honda Accord pulled over, so my dad goes to check it out. It turns out that he had hit the object before I did, and he seemed a bit "dazed." He left before I could speak to him  I'm not too concerned since I lucked out with only 2 damaged tires...

WRONG!!!

I noticed this:

Rear Right:

Front Right:

Later on that night, I go back to that same spot to find what I hit, but all I found were pieces of the other Accord's hubcap, and 2 chunks of my wheel on the other side of the road:

I took my car in for an alignment today, and the toe-in was off in the rear and front right, but they were able to correct it within factory specs...

There is no damage to the undercarriage, and the car drove in a straight line with absolutely no funny noises whatsoever before and after the alignment.

So, now, my collision dedcutible is $1000, so I have to pay for 2 new wheels, 1 (maybe 2) new tires, and an alignment all out of my pocket, unless I can find the party responsible (highly unlikely, since the object disappeared)

Do you guys think I should also replace the rear right tire too (one with the less-damaged wheel)?

The guy at the local wheel shop, and the guy from Discount Tire both went when I popped the trunk and showed them the wheels. The wheels are currently discontinued, but I've found 2 online vendors that have them in stock...

So, do you think the wheels held up well for a 50 mph impact with a large solid object?

EDIT:
let me reiterate that I hit some large solid object in the middle of the road doing 50-55mph. It caused the car to jump twice, mess up 2 AVS ES100s, and knocked out my alignment (that was fixed)...

I bet you that a much stronger 17" forged wheel would have been damaged beyond repair too!!!

If the wheel did that, that's a cheap wheel. No offense.

Good luck to ya.

whatever it was, it was solid, and it seemed tall, but not tall enough to hit the body. It caused a stock 4th gen Accord to destroy it's tire(s), and completely shatter it's hubcap(s) into a million pieces. I'm thinking that his stock steel wheel was probably damaged, but I nver got to see...

:werd: I would look into a different set of wheels. Any good wheel will not crumble like that even after hitting something solid 50mph.

I'm not denying my self that the wheels shouldn't have cracked, but even a forged wheel would have had some serious damage done to it. These are cast, so they will break apart easier much easier than a more expensive forged wheel...

Do you all think 5zigens are cheap though? I mean these came from Japan (not sure if that's a good or bad thing).

My left 2 wheels+tires are perfectly fine, so I have no choice but to order replacements...
