Default New DUI law in Ohio

http://www.nbc4columbus.com/news/2732163/detail.html

:ghey:

I don't agree with drinking and driving, but you can't punish the whole family if one person gets a DUI. How can you NOT associate with your spouse/kid/parent?

Good idea for the offender but not the family.

Law can go fuck themselves if they think I'd put one of them on my car cause my brother was DUI. That's bullshit.
Good thing I'm not in ohio and my brother doesn't drink.

STFU...almost my entire extended family lives there.

As for the law...
The reasoning is sound. One of the things most likely to deter would-be offenders is associations with social institutions, i.e. church, work, organizations, and family . Meaning, many people are much more likely to avoid getting in trouble for fear of hurting or disappointing someone close, like family. It's not like they're taking away the family's driving privledges, and it's only temporary.

It's The Scarlet Letter - LITERALLY - freshened for the 21st century!

I fail to see how this is an effective deterrent to drunk driving. I'd be in favor of mandatory driving suspensions lasting at least one year, without any exceptions.

A wise man once said, "When you have them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow".

The best preventative measure is an iron-clad system of mandatory penalties, regardless of class, employment, race. There should be one law - ONE LAW - that is applied to this, the most egregious motoring violation, where there is no room for bargaining or reduced sentences.

Anything less will not be an effective deterrent.

----------
If / when I am dictator hfawk: :

• 1st offense: $1500 fine + restitution , 12 mos mandatory suspension, on record for 7yrs.

• 2nd offense: $5000 fine + restitution, 30 days in municipal jail, 36mos mandatory suspension, on record for 10yrs.

• 3rd offense: $15,000 fine + restitution, 3-5 years in state penitentiary, lifetime suspension from driving.
----------
Like I said, iron-clad.
