allow me to rephrase an earlier argument..

children should have to learn a second language in elementary... its the prestine time and shouldnt be wasted

 

thats true to a point. but in our school system, we arent required to learn another language. except for what those 2 years of in highschool. :dunno:

in a lot of forgein countries, students MUST take up a second language. and be able to speak it fluently.

 

I know in France they are required to learn english at an early age and therefore many learn to despise it and then forget it. Then at a later age (middle or high school) they can choose a third language. The thing about France and Europe is that there are so many small countries close together so you can actually drive to a different country and speak a different language quite easily. Plus you get more visitors from many different countries. Therefore, it is much more useful for them to learn several languages.

 

but still. theres so much more to being just able to understand another language when you are....well learning another language. and with the united states fill with different people from different cultures and different language....i dont see why we shouldnt be forced to learn another language... oh i know...westernization? :dunno:

 

How bout this theory: we're too busy makin money and startin wars to worry about that shit!

yeah so on the subject of foreign languages in America, as part of my temp job I have to contact gas stations and convenience stores all across the country to get their mailing address because I have to send them a check for a program that they signed up for. Anyways, so most of the owners are Indian of course and a lot of the time I have no idea wtf they are saying because of strong accents (like really strong), bad phone connections, and outside noise so they hang up on me and then they are out of $200+ until they call us or a rep goes to their store and talks to them. I speak to a lot of hispanic people in the southwest and southern white folk who also have accents and I don't really have as much of a problem. It's these damned indians!

 

speaking the guy's language also might get you a hookup since my family is mostly tri-lingual.
Native Americans were here first and english wasnt thr official language, until we killed them all.
