oh yeah, if you talk to a lawyer, ask about the race being "premeditated" the cops and magistrate were talking about it having to be premeditated for them to charge you with racing on a highway, or street racing, i think i'm not sure, ask about it... but that means the cop would have had to see you sitting there revving your engines and all that, that cop who got me said we were doing that, even tho were wern't and we were just sitting at a stop light talking about which fast food place we wanted to go to.

 

I got busted for Drag Racing/Reckless Driving 3 years ago and was not arrested but almost. I got thrown out of the car and placed in handcuffs while the cop ramsacked my car searching for weapons and drugs. I ended up paying about $250-300 in court costs and for the ticket. The worse part is that I'm paying $2300 for 6months of insurance. Most providers won't give me insurance.

ouch, yeah when i was taken to jail, my car and my friends car were searched for like 2 hours, we had friends in the car and they got to go to tacobell, where we were originally headed, and they watched them tear apart our cars, it pissed me off, every paper in my backpack was somewhere else, why f**k with my school work.. then taken just across the street to the impound lot, we got it the next morning without having to pay anything. but i payed $500 for my lawyer, and a bit more here and there for stupid shit...too expensive, not worth it..

I live by the +5 rule, I drive on the speed limit or upto 5 over.

 

pigs suck, dont get me wrong, some cops are good people who protect the peace, but c'mon, 99% are just a-holes looking to bust anyone and fatten their wallet so they can stuff their face w/ more donuts.

Cop: "Look! He's not driving a 1979 boat-buick! HEs gotta be a bad person, lets give him a ticket!"

 

we never raced. we were talkin about where we were goin while we were driving the speed limit and the light was red ahead so we slowed down to about 20 then it turned green so i sped up to get in front of him so he could follow me to a friends house. We never reached the speed limit which is 40 mph, then she pulled us over and came to my car and said something about racing, and i said we were not racing. She said well aggresive driving is a no no and left my car. Then 20 min later she called me and him back to her car and gave us our ticket for "racing on highway". No arresting or handcuffs, she just said have a happy new year.

 

from your description I can see why the cop could think you were racing.
