RX-7 or RX-8?
RX-8: A new, more practical 4-seater that whoops a 350z due to better handling. Doesn't look all too good though...
The one thing that pisses me off is when they try to compare it to the RX-7
THE RX-8 IS NOT THE RX-7'S SUCCESSOR, IT IS A DIFFERENT MODEL ALTOGETHER!!!
RX-7: Not much to say, it's freaking good, and I hope it comes back!

2006 Mazda RX-7
Don't think of the next RX-7 as a 2-door version of the RX-8 because we hear that the car will be more powerful and slightly smaller than its 4-door sibling. The next-generation RX-7 will be a 2-seat coupe riding on a shortened-wheelbase version of the RX-8 platform. There will likely be two renditions of the car: a base model powered by the RX-8's Renesis rotary producing 250 bhp; and a Mazdaspeed edition powered by a turbocharged rotary producing up to 300 bhp.
Plans for a revived RX-7 existed when the RX-8 was being developed. When asked if there was room in Mazda's lineup for both an RX-8 and RX-7, top Mazda brass said yes. Therefore, much of the car's basic foundation, including its RX-8-derived suspension, has already been determined.
Like the previous RX-7 (and unlike the RX-8), the next car will be a pure sports car, with a low, wide stance, flowing profile and a lightweight body. However, the next RX-7 will be priced aggressively — we are hearing estimates of $30,000 to $35,000. Depending on the success of the RX-8, the RX-7 may bow as early as fall 2005.

Besides, the more we bitch about how the RX-8 isn't as good as an RX-7, the more likely Mazda is to make a new RX-7.

they arn't the same model at all and did anyone else see the article in motor trend there is going to be a new rx-7 mazdas already making it. changes will be 2 seater like 3 inch shorter wheelbase couple hundred pounds lighter revised suspension settings and parts and wheels. They also said there would be 2 engine options the same one that is in the rx-8 and a new twin turbochraged one that they say will put out at least 300hp. now hopefully this car will make it to america but we will never know it is claimed to be a 2005-2006 model

couple hundred pounds lighter and pushing over 300 hp? I seriously doubt that.

couple hundred pounds lgihter would be feasable when you are removing a couple inches of car and taking out those 2 extra doors seats and room but look up the article it says it in there

well of course it would be feasible, but I don't think mazda would release a production car with such a high power/weight ratio.
Think about this: The FD weighed ~2890 lbs. Now, The STi weighs in at approximately ~3086 lbs, and as we all know it has 300 hp.
With the FD being already almost 200 lbs lighter than the STi, imagine taking off another 200 lbs...with 300 hp.
A car that is ~2690 lbs with 300 hp would most definently NOT be released...at least not in the US.

Bullshit. IF they are making one, it is in the pre-pre production planning stages, i.e. pretty pictures on paper. Mazda doesn't even plan to release a concept anytime soon.

I agree. it would be at least 3-4 years away.
