-only if you open the throttle wider.

haahahaa this thread reminds me of somebodys sig, which had an aim convo in it that went something like this:

a:"so what do you have in your car"
b:"an intake"
b:"but i have to get an aftermarket exhaust"
a:"why?"
b:"so the engine doesnt explode from too much intake"

:lmfao:

who's sig was that in

so you're saying, correct me if i'm wrong, that intakes are totally worthless since its the throttle that matters and nothing else.

so if that is the case why get headers and exhaust and intakes? its all air flow correct?

even if the pressure increases on the pipes, it wouldn't be enough to erode away at steel at such a fast rate...exhaust is exhaust.

wider pipe = more air flow

you agree iwth half of what i say then go ahead and say "exhaust is exhaust" as if it doesn't matter about anything else because what comes out is exactly the same amount all the time. that makes no sense.

i'm saying that the only time that it would make a difference would be when the throttle is at or near wot. i hope that you dont do your daily driving at wot all the time:squint:

so, lets say w/o an intake, you have to open the throttle 50% of the way open to maintain a certain speed, or accelerate at a certain rate. hypothetically, with the intake, you would prolly have to open the throtte about 45% of the way open to maintain the same speed or accelerate at the same rate because there is less resistance in your intake, but you would still get the same amount of air going thru the engine.

but if you are racing your engine and your throttle is near/at wot, with the intake, you can actually get slightly more air into your engine. even then, its not enough air to blow off you exhaust. how much hp do you gain from an intake, 4 or 5hp? about 5%? that isnt going to blow your exhaust off.

yes but if i have it at 50% with intake there is more air than 50% w/o

so you are agreeing with that

hmm, let me word it differently for you.

if you were cruising at say, 35mph, you had to open the throttle 30% of the way open. now with intake, you have to open the throttle ~27% of the way open to maintain the same speed, because the aftermarket intake flows better than the stock airbox. this is because you need a specific amount of air to get inside the engine in order for your engine to put out enough power to make your car cruise at 35mph. the amount of air going into your engine didnt change.

the only time that you would get more air into your engine would be when youre racing. then read the last paragraph of my last post.
