Default Random stupid question...

I'm painting my rims tomorrow, and I was going to remove the wheel weights when I paint them...

I should just use some pliers, bend them so that they're not clipped around the rim, and pull them out?

Just making sure before I do something damn stupid, and tires are one of the things I don't like to fawk up, esp at 35 psi... never pulled wheel weights off myself too...

And having the weights clipped onto the inside part of the rim... would this work just as well? I've heard bad things about adhesive weights, so I'm exploring the possibility of using weights in an out-of-sight location...

well...i think the shop puts the weight on after inflating the tires. all they seem to do is hammer it down. so i guess if you reverse that process..... just bend and yank em out h:

or call a tire shop.

What are the bad things that you've heard with adhesive weights?

Cool icon...

Anyways, I've heard that they tend to fall off quite a bit, and that they can leave a residue, and can cause damage to the aftermarket paint job I'm about to put on the rims... Though, while the damage would be inside the spokes, I'd rather just use a standard weight on the inside of the rim, unless someone has something bad to say about these too?

Never really had a problem with adhesive weights on my wheels. The only thing that I didn't like about them was when I needed the wheels rebalanced, the guy that worked at the shop didn't bother to take off all of the adhesive from the old weights (I know he didn't have to, but it would've been nice if he did). I just removed the rest of the adhesive myself. No damage to the wheel was made with the old adhesive. Just soak it in goo-gone long enough to get it off.

I'm fully masking the tires with cards and plastic... I should be good on that front h:

I wanted to paint them bronze or dark gold, cause I think bronze on a Frost White teggy looks uber sessy... but I couldn't find the shade I wanted (Especially in a formulation resilient enough for use on tires), so I've decided to go with the standard Duplicoat Graphite...

In the future, I may get nice bronze wheels (Volk T-37s  ), but for now, I'm just looking to get rid of the failing clearcoat on my stock 94 GS-R rims. That and the wheel gap are the only two outstanding appearance issues I need to tackle for now...
