I would really rather not go into it but fine. Drifting in and of itself, I have no problem with. People go to a track, they run a course, they get a score. Great. The thing is in America it has become popular among a bunch of JDM whores that make "drift" cars that don't even compete in drifting competitions. They call their brakes buraki and other such nonsense even though they're white people in the midwest. And of course now it's been latched onto by the F&F crowd and the media and is going to be perverted into some kind of ricey APC crap before you can say "I live my life a quarter mile at a time." Witness how it's already in NFSU and is probably going to be featured on such quality programming as Hi Rev Tuners.

Basically instead of a bunch of stupid high school kids in trashy cars driving like idiots in a straight line, they are now going to drive like idiots and try to get their cars to slide all over the place which will increase the frequency of crashes.

at least now we can see them coming from a mile away with all of the low speeds and lots of tire screeching

I know a few good friends with REAL, properly set up early model 240SXs, that go to real drifting events and use old tires to do it.

It's more of a "style" competition that never will appeal to me, but I can respect it (not the wannabe ricers that are going to try it).

...which will probably provoke outrage from parents and senior citizens alike, causing new and more stringent restrictions on modifications.

You bring up a good point. I think the reason I don't like it so much is that because it's more based on style points it will be more of a draw to ricers and such. It's unfortunate that people aren't able to treat it like other style-oriented sports such as what you see at the X-Games. I wouldn't call skateboard fans ricers, but a bunch of drift fans are.

I believe the SCCA is going to sanction drifting, and I find it interesting as to how this is going to work with car classifications and penalties, etc.

I heard about that as well and I would like to see it very much. I know that Solo II has converted more than a few ricers away from their sins but drifting definitely has more popular appeal and would hopefully have a similar effect.

true, the one thing I like about Solo II is how it can really school people who think they may know a thing or two about driving

Our club (Texas A&M Sports Car Club), only has 2 Honda owners: Me and a newly converted ricer.

People told me of how bad of a ricer he was, but now he's changed his ways, and is known to be a very good driver! He's even planning on ditching his Civic for a real sports car...
