You bring up a good point. I think the reason I don't like it so much is that because it's more based on style points it will be more of a draw to ricers and such. It's unfortunate that people aren't able to treat it like other style-oriented sports such as what you see at the X-Games. I wouldn't call skateboard fans ricers, but a bunch of drift fans are.
I believe the SCCA is going to sanction drifting, and I find it interesting as to how this is going to work with car classifications and penalties, etc.
