tooo dangerous!

I was once one of those people picking races with out drivers, I thought it was all fun and games until a close friend of mine nearly lost his life in a street racing accident.

He slid into a pole at 102 mph, THANK karma it hit the passenger rear quarter panel, and there was no passenger. He did though, spend 2 days in a coma.

then more recently, another kid I knew was screwin around, going to fast around a curb, and rolled his civic (i posted pics in the basement)

It scares me when people ride my bumper, it scares me even more to see people weaving in and out of traffic. I can't control other motorist, and furthermore, I can't control an unpredictable conditions.

one reason its best or safest to do it controlled situations. If its not under control, then dont do it at all.

And expanding on the controlled environment aspect...

When you street race, there are too many other variables besides just driver's ability to control their car. Drugs, alcohol, unsafe cars, are just some of the additional elements. Violence is also a possibility (I mean these aren't exactly the most reputable people out there). Tracks have a vested interest in keeping drivers and spectators safe (ie insurance premiums and lawsuits), so for your own safety it's probably best to go to a track.

So the answer to your question is that it absolutely should be illegal. It's not so much as racing is unsafe as the ramifications of street racing are much more far reaching than racing at a track.

Something I posted in the basement...

If you think you don't have the opportunity to race you are vastly mistaken. We all do and it takes the initiative to find out and partake in it. There is autoxing which is held almost all year round in most ciities, if your town is too small find a place that is holding an event and drive there. There is the local drag strips that you can race at when they are not being used for major events. There are the go kart places that most decently sized towns have. Then there is the SCCA showroom stock class B and C. All it takes is a SCCA license and your regular car with safety gear like roll bars/cages, etc. They have regional competitions culminating in the big Run offs at Mid Ohio. Get in your car and drive down, take part in it you might wreck your car of get your butt kicked. But its cheaper than losing a life or the expenses of wrecking someone elses car street racing or the fines involved with it. Eventually someone at the SCCA events is gonna like what you do and talk to you about working for him.

Don't give me the reasons "I don't have the opportunity" you do its just that you don't avail of it. But, if you want to kill yourself then go ahead and go street racing your life probably isn't worth anything.

LOL... They suffer just like the rest of us do in December and January.

I know its illegal but im just trying to get peoples information on what they think about street racing.
I don't know how you could really expect someone to support the premise in public when there is very obviously an overriding public interest in keeping it illegal.

It's just too dangerous to tolerate.

It already is illegal. It's dangerous and people die doing it. There are sanctioned locations to race at - they're called tracks. If they're not open 24-7, go tomorrow. This is the dumbest thread I think I've ever read in this forum.

:werd:

i mean honestly, its not like street racing is something you have to do all the time. so boo hoo, the track is rarely open. then spend your time doing other things.

street racing is the stupidest thing you could do in your car (for the most part). if you get pulled over, get hurt, etc, i will have no sympathy for your ass. its your own damn fault.

Going to the track to race is so fun. Where else can you chill with 16 second Civic owners who post too much on Honda-Tech and get scared at the thought of *gasp* swapping their engine by themselves?

Thats what a track is for. Real racers don't give a shit because they know you're getting a feel for your car. I first took my car out and didnt know how to launch or anything. I ran a 17!!! Nobody cared, and if they did, then they're just some bullshit asshole. Would you rather be embarassed and laugh at it later on or dead?
