Yes, I am aware that there was a black woman who was also captured. As I recall, she was shot once or twice someplace very painful...like her ankles or knees or feet...I can't remember for sure though. But, you more or less made my point. The black woman in this situation, while I'm sure got some attention, got less that Jessica Lynch did. Same as the other male members of the unit. While America is not as racist as it used to be, I believe that Jessica's age and white-ness were a factor in receiving the attention that she did. Hell, they might not even be doing it on purpose, but there is definitely an inequality in people's perceptions of black and white people, true or not. They're socially ingrained. It's unfortunate, but that's how it is.

Her being raped...for one, I'm kind of amused that there's any surprise that she was. If you look at the way it's worded in some of the articles, the attitude is like, "Whoa! You were raped too? Oh my!" Honestly, I was surprised when I first heard the story that (as far as anyone knew at the time) she wasn't raped. I'm not gonna say women shouldn't be in the military, because I think they should. However, and yes this is contradictory, this is exactly why they shouldn't be.

 

Ok first off she did not get the congressional medal of honor however she did get a purple heart and a bronze star and she got discharged from the National guard with a 90% dissability check. The black girl that was with her is getting a 30% disability discharge with most of the same wounds. Second off all you bleeding hearts need to realize that she was a soldier just like my wife who is in Iraq right now, and luckily I didn't go because I get out in under 60 days and my unit just left. She is nothing spectacular and I really feel that she has given all women in the military a bad name by riding this thing like she has. Everytime a male soldier is captured he gets a 10 min bleep on CNN and then another 10 min bleep when he is rescued. If the hooker wouldn't have ran her Humvee into a jacknifed semi and fired some rounds maybe I wouldn't feel this way. She had the best hospital care she could have got in Iraq and the Iraqi physician says that there where no signs that she was raped. This is taken from the Army times so flame away if you want. In my opinion she is just a media toy and nothing more. She got unfair attention cause we all know that the war in Iraq is total and complete bullshit.

1: Jessica Lynch got publicity because she was a young white female.

2: The men in her unit who were captured got a hair of publicity because they were with her, as a side note to reports on her.

3: The men in her unit who died didn't get a single line.


I said nothing about you hating men or thinking women were in charge of the world. What I did say is that the reason you care about Jessica Lynch is because she has tits and a vagina and if her name was James Lynch and had a penis you never would have heard of him because he wouldn't have been on the news in the first place.

Then I said the reason you're in here defending her is because you empathize with her. Notice - again no accusations of feminazi manhating tendencies.

 

Thank you, that's exactly what I was trying to get at. She wasn't only given preferential treatment by the media, but by the military itself.

Also, I read WiLL's post with transcript of her interview, and it does make me really sad that on my birthday, while I was happy and spending time with my girlfriend, she was in some dank prison being anally raped by some stank-ass Iraqi fuckheads.
