the only advantage was that the distance for shifts were reduced since it was a shorter knob than stock.

i think i remember seeing a leather covered one... made by Momo

found it:

it's not glued, it's friction fit. they haven't glued it down for over 2 decades.

tony had to since he got a MINI shift knob which has a slightly larger inner diameter.

yeah after you remove and replace the shift knob about 3-4 times it will come loose... at the most inopportune time too

which is one of the reasons why i got my aftermarket knob. it has a special patented locking ring and it only takes 2lb of force to remove and replace and lasts the life time of the car

versus 80lb for the stock knob and only 3-4 cycles.

I have a round knob. A big heavy round knob. My g/f got it for me. Made by Momo, I don't remember the product name, but basically combine the 2 pics that DakarM posted. Shiny like the first one, design closer to the second one. It's the only shiny thing in/on my car. I like round knobs just for comfort reasons, plus it did shorten the throw a bit. Doesn't really make my shifts any faster, although a bit easier b/c the knob is pretty darned heavy.

i have a razo ra-25 round weighted (only 340g) ball shift knob. i like it cuz it holds well and more ergonomic imo. it feels like i'm holding a joystick.
