Imo You need to make mid to high 5 figures just live comfortable in San Diego.
I work 4 blocks away from your company here in San Diego (Scripps Poway Parkway)
Place is huge
absolutely, completely different cost of living... the salary differs depending on where you are, but it's not that much of a difference.

the buffalo office is basically full, or will be in the next year...

jobs keep popping up in indy, gotta really think about it.

this is what we're thinking...

we are looking for
a) something warm... like florida, arizona, cali.

and / or

b) ocean.

how much of a difference are we really going to see between buffalo and indianapolis?

much bigger city, but i think it'd be like the same situation.

I really wanted to live in a place that was near water, and warm. LA doesn't have any beaches, but I can get to a nice one in florida in about 3 hours. There's an incredibly nice lake front (Ponchartrain) 10 minutes from my office. Good enough.

If you can find a job that brings you to nice weather, I say go for it. Moving to South Florida was never on my priority list, but I found a job that paid me more and provided opportunities for growth. Problem is, I work too much to ever go to the beach that is a mile from where I live.

Out of curiosity, how's the cost of living in Florida? (as long as you're not in Miami or whatever)

There are two medical schools I'm very interested in, and have a good shot of an acceptance. One is outside of Sarasota and the other is in Ft. Lauderdale. Sure, I could google this, but this site's circling the drain as it is so I figured I'd keep the conversation going.

Cost of living varies throughout the state. Southeast Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach) all have pretty high costs of living. I say this having moved from Philadelphia, and not really noticing a big difference in housing prices, food costs, etc. Once you move north (Martin County, St. Lucie County, etc), the cost of living is much lower -- but you are further away from core business areas. I am not too familiar with the West Coast, but it is generally less expensive and quieter. What you save on living costs, you make up for with limited career opportunities. However, being in healthcare you will likely find a job.

The good thing about Florida is there are no State or Local income taxes.

Indianapolis is warm in the summer. The winters aren't that bad either, nothing like the snow in Buffalo. At most there might be 6" of snow at any given time, with a couple 2-3" coatings a year being normal. I didn't care for winter because everything was gray for so long.
