Default bmw owners...need ur input...

are any of u familiar with the e36 AND e46??
i drove my friends 328 e46 last nite and it feels alot different from my e36...
the handling is quite different...its a bit soft and doesnt feel as stable as mine...
the car is too responsive its scary...a lil tap on the brake will jerk the car...and the gas pedal is responsive too...
aniwho...i like the e36 better...but then i havent been driving that many different bmws to begin with....
am i correct? or its different from car to car??

I've never driven an e36 or e46 but I can imagine that the e36 feels heavier than my e30 and the e46 feels heavier than the e36.

If you think your e36 is good, wait till you drive an e30 325i at least. :rick:

Rick can give you the good details on this. I'm sure he's driven plenty of BMW's.

Yeah, wait until you find out you can't tilt the steering wheel up or down. :fawk:

I learned stick on an e36 but that was the only time i've driven an e36. I've only been a passenger in one since and I can say it's:
-not as stiff as e46
-not as fast
-never cornered e36 hard but does feel mobile

I'm comparing a e36 318i and 328i experiences to an e46 M3 though so....

I like e36 though, esp 4-door M3s

Dude  you can't compare a 318i to a M3 of any model.

between E36 and E46(non sports package) the E36 is a lot stiffer (not harsher) ride and in my opinion handls better.

for 2001 E46 3 had over boosted steering, so Kevin, you should find out if the one you test drove was an early 01. I believe the late 01s have the correctly boosted steering.

The E46 does feel heavier than E36, but then that's because the car is heavier :chuckles:

However, add the sports package for the E46 (sedans only, coupe already have the suspension bits and sports only adds tires/rims) and the E46 come out a winner.

The roll rate is significantly reduced from the E36 and the perceived body roll is a lot less.

I personally prefer the E36 :rick: (M Coupe chassis code = E36/8)

I drove a bunch of E36- 325is, 325, M3 etc, and the E46 323i, 328i, m3... I like the E46's styling and the comfort. The E36 is nice too, but I think the interior looks and feels dated.

Oh, you might also want to try to ask that in a Bimmer forum, you'll be sure to get interesting replies from both sides..

When I was shopping for a E36 M3 or a E46 330i, I posted a poll on DTMPower and I started a war. :rick:
