Default Lowering

I apologize for the noobness of this question

Ok we all talk about spring stiffness and ride stiffness as opposed to bouncing around. I have 17 inch rims on stock suspension and yea the ride isnt that great i feel everything. If I lower my car with koni yellows that I am probably going to buy and eibach springs for a 1.5 inch drop, am I going to be more COMFORTABLE driving on the street, or am I gonna still feel everything but just be 1.5 inches lower. Some stiffness is good, but I don't want to cry everytime I go onto a driveway cause of the BAM! noise. And I don't want to bounce either. Whats the COMFORT improvement (not just performance wise).

Sorry again, just need to know i am spending money on something that won't hurt me.

I guess what I am trying to say is RIDE QUALITY. I want good ride quality even though I have 17s.

Well, if you're on stock suspension, then it's not gonna be much different with an aftermarket suspension. In fact, it might be worst with an aftermarket suspension. The reason why you're feeling everything on the road is because of the smaller sidewall of your tires (I'm guessing that you have 205/40/17).

But don't think that it's all bad. You did gain better steering response (but you probably didn't notice that) in exchange for the horrible ride quality.

Tires do a great job of absorbing small bumps and cracks in the pavement. Your lack of tire sidewall is whats creating a harsher ride. Tire construction can also make a big difference in how your car rides.

If you don't like the ride, maybe you should consider downsizing to 16" wheels to put a little more 'meat' between your car and the pavement. Are the springs you are planning to get Eibach pro kits? IF they are then the wheelwell gap will still be big enough to look a bit ackward with such a low profile tire ( will still look like its stock height). If you are looking to kill the fender gap and want a spring rate slightly stiffer then stock then you should ask around about Tein s-tech springs (1.8-2.0 lower).

I put my 17s on with a stock suspension, and like you mentioned it was way different than when I had the HX rims on there. About a week later, I installed Eibach Sportline springs and the ride actually seemed a bit better (still on stock struts). Anyway, once you get used to the ride, it isn't bad at all. I'll be getting some Koni Yellows in the near future, and that should make it ride way better than it did stock.

anyone have a pic of 16" rims with the Eibach pro kit? I just don't know if 1.5 is enough, although I still want a decent ride. 93ditune, can you post pics of your drop with the stechs? Also what struts are you running on?

I'm in the middle of swapping my suspension completely right now. I had an issue with my rear struts being so rusted out that i can't take them apart so i'm buying KYB AGX Adjustables. I already have the Eibach Pro Kit on the front and it's a nice drop, for me that is. There is about an inch of space in there now...maybe less. It handles better, and I have 16" wheels on 205/45-16 tires.

Personally, I dont think the ride is all that bad. I'm hopefully goin to install the rear springs and KYBs (if i get the last strut mounts i need). If you want to lower the car and get handling, the pro kit is really awesome. They are stiff springs, great quality, and the ride isn't that bad on 16s for me on stock struts.

But to each their own on this kinda thing. I'll be sure to post pics if i get the suspension done tomorrow so you can see what it looks like. I drive a 99 EX by the way.
