Default What transmission is udes in the S2000?

Hello, forum!

I was wondering what tranmission is used in the S2000. Is it similar to other Honda or Acura designs? (I assume not, being front engine, rear drive...) Does anyone know who makes it? Is it similar to a T-56?

And what engine is used in the S2000? (B20-something?)

All info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Honda makes the transmission. They make all their transmissions. It is completely different from any other Honda tranny since the S2000's motor (the F20C) is longitudinally mounted....or whatever way it is that's from front to back. Maybe it's transversely? You get my drift. Why? You planning on doing a swap or something? You can't fit the F20C into any H/A without major, MAJOR work to make it RWD...or you can stick it in the trunk and make it MR.

Thanks for your response.

I'm interested in running in the 1.5 to 2.0 liter engine class at Bonneville. I thought a Honda engine would be great for making reliable power, but I want front engine, rear drive for a quick-change rear end. (I'll be running in either streamliner or lakester class.)

Any ideas on what transmissions could mount up to a B18 or B20? Or is that a question for eslewhere on Honda-Acura net?

Thanks again.

I'm not familiar with that kinda crap. We have an Engine Tech and a Hybrid forum towards the bottom of the forum listings in the tech section. If that's the way you're going, I suggest going the route of an old Toyota with RWD (like an early 80's Celica) and putting the F20C in there. That wouild be ideal. It can be done with some work (and probably 3-6 grand, not counting the engine which will run you at least 6 grand, maybe 8 or 10). Your best bet for a tranny on the B18 is the Integra Type-R transmission hooked up to a B18C5 (or go with a B18B1 non-VTEC if you're gonna turbo and crap, they have the best low end torque and best build characteristics of all 1.8L Honda engnes). As for the B20...I've never heard of a B20. Maybe I'm having a major brain fry here, but they have the K20 (RSX)...and I can't think of any other 2.0L Honda engines besides the F20C. The B18 is front engine, BTW. Some people have mounted it in the back of a CRX.

Isn't the B20 the engine used in the CR-V that's essentially the same as the B18s, just 2.0 liters instead of 1.8? (I may be wrong...)

But I think I have a bigger problem here... Don't Honda engines spin the "wrong" way for rear wheel drive?

Thanks for the tip, Chris. I'll check out the Engine Tech and a Hybrid forum.

Yes, they do. That's why I said only the F20C would work, or the C30/C32 in the NSX rear mounted. I thought the way the engine spun only affected the transmission type and not the drive type, but maybe not. The B20 is the CR-V block, you're right, but I dunno anything about that.

a b20 is is a 2.0 which_is_different from a b18...1.8 liter. you can only match up b series trannys with each other..and that is it.

I know someone makes a 6 speed RWD trans for B series engines, but I can't remember the site for the life of me...
