Default S2000 with 4.77 rear end gears

I drove my friends 2001 S2k, with the Ricks racing 4.77 rear end gearing.

He got the gears with some strengthening process, shims, and a speedo correcting box for $500 through a group buy.

Had a mechanic at Honda put the gears in. That car is a pure joy to drive.

It accelerates nicely from low end rpms, all the way to redline. I would def. recommend the upgrade to anyone who may be thinking about it.

The cars mods are as follows:

Comptech intake
Lightened flywheel (9lbs I believe, don't know the brand)
Rick rear end gears
OEM front lip
Yokohama A032r's

I also drove the 2004 S2k the next day. Compared to my friends 2001 S2k with the gearing, the 2004 S2k sucked in comparision. The motor didn't pull till 6.5k (vtec crossover), and then you were hit with the redline at 8100.

I found my friends S2000 to be much more fun to drive.

2004 S2k does have more looks though.

Enjoy.

Well the stock 00-03 s2k with 4.10 rear cruises at 60mph in 6th gear at about 3250rpms. So I'm guessing with the increased to 4.77 he would be at about 3700rpms in 6th gear at 60mph.

I still think 4.77 is way too short for a final drive gear in any street car, I know it feels good, but the higher revs turns me off. I'm iffy about even going to a 4.30 myself.

It's not too bad, I cruise at 3500 down the highway with a 6500 rpm redline.

Since Honda's make so much power high in the RPM range, I think they can take a little more revving.

I agree high rev means more wear. Sub 4000 rpms @ 60 mph, doesn't seem too bad for me.

I say drive it before you judge.
Btw, I heard J's is coming out with 5.11's. :rick:

Shorter FDs are usually nice to drive. But who drives 60mph for any distance? My drive consists of very little 60mph, a lot of 80mph... But maybe that's just my drive?

well, the s2k i'm using see's very little street driving.. it's mostly for autocross and track.. so i think the 4.77 would help greatly.. you know where i can get more info on the fd?? i'll probably buy it..

ya, 80mph is more like a normal cruising speed.... at that point your turning ~5035 rpm...... redline with stock tires should be about 143mph with 4.77's.

I have 4.77's in my racing only S2000....they work great! Sometimes you do get caught between gears in the turns, but that would happen with almost any gearing at different tracks.

I'm speaking just for me, but if I had an S2000, it wouldn't be my daily driver. More of a weekend car, so it won't see much highway traffic.

I'm sold on the FD's, and I'll fight anyone who disagrees!
