Default Value of an 02 Si at dealership?

Hey guys, my local dealership has a used honda-certified 2002 Si w/ 49,000 miles for $12,995.

Do you think I could get it for a MUCH better price? Seems like edmunds TMV is pretty darn close to that.

Any input?

buy from a private party.

have you test driven the car? if you have that kind of money try out the base rsx of the same year, the fit and finish is nicer.

buying from a private party is a bit trickier for me, as I need the dealer to buy out my lease as a trade-in. I suppose I COULD go to carmax, see what happens, and then use that money to buy a new car...but too much hassle.

Thing is I DON'T have that kinda money. I'm trying to be as cheap as possible while still getting into a car I'd like. Unfortunately 98-01 GSR's are a cheaper alternative, but there none in the chicagoland area at dealers.

So, is $12,999 still TOO expensive for that car?

that is a pretty meh price for that kind of car... you should wait and try to get a base rsx at least.

Default nice price

i have been selling cars for long enough to know a little here. 12,995 for an 02 with under 50 clicks isn't bad. honda's certification process is THE BEST in the industry, so that has some value there.

i am trying to sell my 04 si with 30K to my owner's honda store, and they want to give me around 13k for it in stock condition so they can certify it.

if you really want to get down to brass tacks, you need to make them show you how much they have in the car.. ie what they purchased it for plus recon charges and cert charges. then offer about 500 over that. they shoud be happy to move a used unit.

Thanks for the input.

There's a couple other ones out there that AREN'T certified, and asking $13K-$14K for a *2002* which I think is still a bit rediculous. I'm going in this weekend and hopefully aim for more like $11.5K-$12K OTD. Am I crazy? BTW, all these cars have at least 60-70 thousand miles on them.

11.5-12 OTD means about 9k. be prepared to add approximately 15 percent over the price of the car for tax and fees.

this is the reason you can buy it cheaper off the street... no fees and no recon.

i would be happy buying that car for around 13-14k OTD from a dealer or about 12-13 w/tax from a private party.

good luck

Well, a bit of an update.

I didn't end up with an ep3, because the dealer was being a major jackass about the car. He swore up and down that the SI's were super rare (which they sort of are) and that they were just as good as the 2006 SI's. He refused to budge ONE BIT on his price. So $13.9 out the door was his final price. I walked myself out the door, and went down the street to get a 2001 Integra GS-R instead.

At least I'm still in the Honda family!
