Default h23vtec turbo setup???

I'm running a h23block w/ a h22a head and fmax turbo kit.

I had a jdm h22 w/ the turbo kit, but didn't make it to the dyno in time. I killed the block, must have been running lean.anyway, I got a h23 block for pretty cheap w/ doing little r&d on how h23's
are w/ boost.

The h23 block is not in the car yet I will be building the block pistons, rods, etc. I will also be getting good engine management for this setup. So my question is, should I go with this setup, or try to find another h22 block, and why. I plan to run 14-17psi w/ the fmax kit which incudes- turbonetics T3/T4
- deltagate wastegate
- spearco intercooler

Also, will I be able to run the stock head [h22a] with 14-17psi?
If not what mods do you recommend.

I want to hear all opinions on this, help me out guys.

what exactly did you kill on the h22a block?

i would recommend h22 over h23 for boost if you get the block sleeved, and it sounds like you are in the market to be buildin a block so...

h22a head should be fine except for the cams, you will want to get stage 2 turbo vtec cams to run that kind of boost.
these cams will shave off the duration in VTEC mode and of course you will need a VAFC to tune the engines fuel and VTEC system correctly

block-wise you will want pistons, rods and sleeves.
might as well replace you bearings with KING's at this point too
and get your h22a crank polished.

everything else should be fine, except the clutch, u will want a SPRUNG unit with good holding capacity, i would not recommend getting an unsprung clutch, i call those tranny eaters.

att. ludeboom,

I melted the #4 piston around the top edge about halfway around, I did do damage to the cylinder wall, but very little. Does it sound like I would still be able to use this block? Does it sound fixable?

I have a ACT clutch. street disc, hard pressure plate.
Think it'll be alright?

wouldnt trust that #4 rod for shit

might as well spend just under a G and do the block proper
sleeves+rods+pistons
you should be able to amass these parts and get the block sleeved for under $1000
labor on the engine build is a different story

then you can push some serious boost and start beating vette's, vipers, and winning money to pay for the engine.

ludeboom,

Who makes good pistons, rods and sleeves for high boost?
Is there a package deal that you would recommend?

crower makes good rods, and darton makes very good sleeves, as for the pistons, not too sure, normally when I hear about swapping pistons, it's usually type-s pistons, but you need low compression, not high, so perhaps ludeboom is prepared to answer that one for you.

make sure you get low compression forged pistons, and forged rods.

right, I checked crower's site out, they also make pistons, but the lowest comp they offer for the 22 is 9.0, you could work with that, but 8.5 might be better, I guess it all depends on how much boost you plan/want to run.

Thanks guys, I plan to run 14-17 psi.
I'll get anything I need to make good power, any other suggestions.
