Thanks for all the input. I simply wanted to know whether or not the Lude's auto tranny would likely stand up to semi-daily driving with the JRSC mod; I would expect it to, but wanted to hear from experience. I already have all the bolt-ons, so I would fully expect the JRSC auto to put out 200-215 whp. That's a realistic 30% gain, especially with the 8 lb. pulley in place.

I understand that the 5 spd would be preferable, but this is our third car (part-time grocery getter) that is driven by my wife as well as me, and she can't (won't) drive a stick.

Thanks,
~Kelly

yeah, it's a crapshoot with the SS, but good luck with it.

if you've still got some miles left before you break 100K, it could be worthwhile.

haha what's with wives and gf's that refuse to drive a stick? a few exgf's of mine would refuse to, and i never understood that. It's one thing to not BUY a manual if you don't want one, but to refuse to drive one on an occassional basis?

i have 115k miles on mine... and i have the SS tranny and its doin fine... although i would rather have a manual, i got my lude for cheap, soo even tho its not a manual, im happy, and i was thinking about gettin the JRSC, but now that yall are sayin it wont be able to withhold the extra power.. then i dont know... but i do know that i dont have the money for a 5spd switch.... if i did... i wouldnt have an Auto... ohh well... life sucks, later.

you're thinking about ATTS. the ATTS controller can only direct torque up to ~25oft/lbs before it goes tits up.

as for the SS, yes, the torque converter cannot fully lock when you add too much power to it. this is true of most automatic trannies, and is the big reason why autos dyno less than 5 speeds.

i'll assume everyone here knows how a torque converter works, so thus you'll see why the above statement holds truth.

but gettin a torque converter that is able to withstand the added power, plus have a stall speed that will aloow you to launch the car at a useful rpm is the key to making power. if this werent true, NHRA wouldnt be using automatics, and the NHRA Sport Compacts, NDRA, and IDRC would allow for automatics to be used... simply put: AUTO TRANNIES ARE AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE. no one can shift faster than a properly setup auto tranny.

so, with that out of the way... let's begin:

rebuild the torque converter. take it to Level 10 and have them set it up to make power. they can adjust the valving to increase your stall speed to a launchable rpm, tune the lockup unit so it shifts harder and stronger, with less time for the stall converter to "swim" in between gears, thus putting more power to the ground.

your AT controller can also be programmed to shift at better intervals, especially if you go with a set of cams and a valvetrain upgrade to raise your redline.

lock up both wheels. nothing says "slow" like a peglegged burnout. the guy who posted earlier who had a JRSC boosted prelude was running mid 14's. with a locker, he would probably be running low14's to high 13's since the stock tranny cant put that kind of power to the ground efficiently. a look at his 60' times would be more telling, as would a trap speed.

adding 50% more hp to any motor with one wheel spinning is a waste of time, if you're concerned about drag racing performance. make use of that 50% by employing it with both wheels.

Dont listen to what the majority of ppl say about autos i have a ss lude with a built tranny, and let me tell you that it shifts way harder and way faster than any normal driver can ever shift a 5 speed and itll hold all the power u want to put down .I have a fmax turbo kit on it. my car dynoed 268hp and 256ft/lbs to the wheels. if you have a auto get it built. my tranny build was 1800 bucks but was well worth it. the tranny has all new internals, a hardcore torque converter, and a 3000 rpm stall. i pulled mid 13s on street tires and a 12.84 on slicks.
