Default Totalled 5th gen Prelude help?

I bought a 97 lude sh on superbowl sunday and i already totalled it... Now i have to look for another car and i was wondering if i should get a another lude or go for another car. I'd like to be able to run low to mid 14's...is this realistic for a 5th gen lude? My old one ran 15.2's with cai. Any help is appreciated.

I say that if you enjoyed that car, sure get another. But if you do mod it... share some pics

yes, with i/h/e and either upgraded clutch/flywheel (assuming its 5spd) and/or slicks I have seen lots of 5th gen ludes running in the 14's. So what is the story with the lude, did they pay you and completely take the car? or will you have the chance to buy it back? If you have the chance to buy it back you could take the rest of the money you have left over, buy something else w/high miles and then put your h22 in there if you want an instant 14sec or even 13 sec car if you put it into a hatch. Putting it into a hatch or civic will be a bitch but if you put it into something a lil bit bigger like an integra then you could have a 14 second car instantly.

Ya, i asked them if that would be possible but they said that i cant take off any part of the car or buy any parts back... believe me...engine swap was the first thing that popped into my head. They are gonna pay me the "market value" for it. Not sure how much that is gonna be but hopefully its around 13.5k. That sound about right for a 97 red SH with about 76k miles?

yes, that sounds decent, usually they dont even give that much so youll be lucky for them to give you market value, no but what I was saying was this.... if you buy the car back that means they give you a lot less then if they pay you outright, usually around half, but then the car is yours, so what I was saying is this, if they offer you 7500 dollars AND the car smashed you could take the motor/parts out of the car and use the 7500 to buy something else to put it in, even a lot of mods.... or you could just take the whole 13K and buy a car and have plenty left over for a motor swap.....

I didn't know that if they total out a car they take it and won't give it to you?

That's messed up. I'd complain and tell them it's my car and you can't have it... or something.

I had a friend buy back a 90-ish wrecked Z28 for just over $2k, he kept the motor and trans and parted the rest out to basically break even on the $2k. He used the motor and trans for an older Z (my old '79 Z28) and used the rest of the insurance check for upgrades and paint. It was a pretty sweet deal until some guy crashed into it while it was parked and my friend only had liability on it since it was old

I totalled a 4th gen lude (95) and the insurance company gave me $9,200 and told me i could buy the car for $500. I didnt have the money but I would have bought it back for sure if I did.

If the car is completely totalled, you cannot buy it back. The title is marked as a salvaged vehicle, and at least in Ohio, you cannot register a salvaged title.
