I had a friend buy back a 90-ish wrecked Z28 for just over $2k, he kept the motor and trans and parted the rest out to basically break even on the $2k. He used the motor and trans for an older Z (my old '79 Z28) and used the rest of the insurance check for upgrades and paint.
