Default Balancer belt question

Iv'e got a 98 Prelude Sh with the H22a4. If anyone recalls the HondaTuning issue that said Prelude to Power. They took an OBD 2 H22 out of a fifth gen. Prelude and put it in a EG Civic. In that article they pulled off the balancer belt to "free up horsepower". But this belt drives the oil pump I thought. Is it safe to take pull that belt off? I would think so if Honda Tuning did it. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

The timing belt drives the oil pump. The balancer belt runs off a different pully and drives just the two balance shafts. I've heard of people pulling it off with not adverse effects.

Okay well that makes sense then if its just for the balancer shafts. I was under the impression that one was a balancer shaft and the other the oil pump. If the timing belt drives the oil pump that makes more sense for this "uprade". Thanks for the input again.
