h23 to h22 swap question
friend of my spun a bearing in is 94 lude. the problem is, that when he bought the car someone had allready swapped the h22 . car ran descent enough, untill the rod knock showed up. he bought jdm h22 and i helped him wrestle it in (it was a mother f*****) finally got it installed w/ new clutch and tranny stabbed. everything is bolted in and we started hasseling with the wiring harness. it is using the stock h23 harness and the previous swaper ran his own vtec wires. heres the deal, there was 2 wires going to the vtec solenoid and they were just spliced together and then connected to the 1 wire connecter. the car is supposedly chiped so im wondering why there is two wires going into a one wire connecter, unless the chip runs a second wire to engage vtec sooner?!??! i dunno?! second problem is there is no wires for the vtec oil psi switch. does it need that for vtec to work? or maybe one of those two wires that are spliced together goes to it? any help for someone who has done this swap before would be great
well...i know its only been posted a day, but i guess no one has done this swap before. im kinda thinking that one of those two wires is actually one of the wires for the vtec oil psi switch. i know the switch is there so the computer can confirm that the vtec solenoid is actually applying oil psi to the lifters. so heres my theory. one of the wires goes the the psi switch, but they just hooked it to the vtec solenoid to keep the check engine light from coming on. because everytime vtec is engaged, the other wire gets its power from vtec power wire. ?? maybe..
I've done the H23 to H22 swap, and I'm using the original wire harness in the car, check the wires at the ECU. If the wires are all jacked just rewire it, its not that hard. One wire for the syl, one for the pressure switch and one for ground. Check the FAQ's and swap guides.
