Apexi SAFC 2 Neo
just ordered this, I found one on e bay for 295 dollars, brand new. Boise's Idaho speed center claims 15-30hp gain. I will post after i get it put in. Idaho speed center wants to charge me 150 dollars to install this. Does that sound reasonable?
i dont think alot of people know how to really install it so all i can say is just be careful
Well, I know they have done a few installs before, and said they "have had pretty good luck with them". So I think they should know how to do it. Not really too comfortable doing it myself, just because I dont want to ruin a 01 lude with 34k miles. I think I would have to run myself over with what ever hp was left. Now if they screw it up, they should fix it, so you would think.
So you are going to put the SAFC on your 01 Lude and expect 15-30 HP?
Reality check - Not gonna happen...
You would need forced induction to achieve gains like that...
You will prob only gain at most 2 HP, but since you are going to "mess with the fuel trims" you will prob actually lose power...
I speak from experience and an SAFC will not help you at all...
Why not save for the Type-s conversion... That will net you a decent 20 HP... Plus it's all stock OEM parts, what better way to go?

boomslang has a plug and play harness so you dont have to cut up your stock harness http://www.boomslang.us/neo.htm
dont expect any gains without tuning. and bolt on's would not require tuning.

why would anyone buy an SAFC if it decreases power? I was thinking of it of being a stepping stone for more mods. I haven't thought of the type s converson. What mods are done on the type s to give it the extra hp? Thanks for your input.
fyi, I do have CAI and exhaust, may help a little
*just checked out the type s conversion parts, 690 dollars for the cam shafts. I Imagine the install is what is going to kill me. Actually it said the type s conversion w/ free flowing exhaust, quality and quality intake (nothing said about forced induction, but of course that would be even more power on top of the cam shafts) Makes me think I will save up for the conversion, and put the SAFC on afterward.

safc's and any piggy back fuel controller is used to tune the engine when you have mods that let the engine breathe better, therefore requiring more fuel. things like cams, nitrous, turbo's. i/h/e would not fall into this category. piggy back's in general suck though as they only allow you minimal control of fuel and no ignition timing control. standalone systems are much better.
So I checked to see how much the camshafts were, 690. I called to see how much it would cost to have the camshafts put in, he said its cheaper to find a used motor...my translation, not logical, my h22 is like new. I did also ask if putting the SAFC neo was worth putting on before other mods (I wanted him to think I was still going to spend money, maybe even more just so he would be honest) He told me they put the neo on all of the H22s they race, and with a cold air intake, and the correct settings, I was told it would make a noticable differance. If it doesnt, I will take the basterd out, or get more mods down the road.
he's trying to make you spend money. an safc is the last enigine management system you should ever use, unless you truely are a budget racer. in which case you shouldnt be racing at all cause shit breaks all the time. you can install many of these things yourself with a helms manual and patience.
