Engine Light and ATTS Light....(EGR Valve)
Well I took it off and cleaned it with the brush i had. Unfortunately, the brush I had was a lil too big, but did the best I could with it. I moved the valve up and down and it seems good. I put the EGR valve back on and seemed to do the trick. Just hope it stays off.
Ok, not even 2 days pass and light comes back on. I guess I didnt do a good job cleaning it. The dealership mentioned cleaning the EGR port? Where is this located and how exactly should I clean the EGR Valve?

I'm having the same issue with my 1998 Acura 2.3CL. Code 401! EGR valve. Advance Auto Parts has the part for $117 but a mechanic told me you can just take it off and clean it with brake cleaner. I was going to try it today. looks pretty easy to get to. Once I take it off, will i see the parts that ned cleaning? I don't have a metal brush. Will brake cleaner work?
reading about your issues has me a little worried.

i would just get a new egr valve i have seen no cleaning procedure on the valve but the erg ports you can clean with a small brush and carb cleaner thats what i use.some times you have to take the intake manifold off and get it hot tanked a brush will only go so far their is a port in the head to if it gets badly clogged you will have to try and clean it or hot tank it to.
not sure where the ports are or where the intake manifold is. if i get a new EGR valve and put it on , will that solve the problem? or do i have to get the ports , hoses, and all that stuff cleaned too?
I would love to just be able to take the valve off, clean it, and be done with it. i guess it's not that easy of a fix.

Ok, i got a semi-new egr valve from a 97 prelude and going to install it today. I tried cleaning the EGR Valve out with carburetor cleaner and light still comes on. Can someone elaborate on how to clean the EGR port? Never worked on this and dont wanna mess anything up.
did the light come rite back on or did it take a while.if it came rite back on it could be an electrical problem if it took a while it could be clogged egr ports.or did you clear the code it could be the old code still stored in memory.

Yes, did you clear the code corectly? With the engine off, remove the radio fuse for 10+ seconds and replace (it's in the underhood fuse box, 7.5 amp) You will need your radio code, and will have to reset your clock and all your programed stations.
