Default Distributor died what to do ?

Hi,

Firstly my dizzy had a whirring noise coming from it...then it started missing....opened it up and the rotor had a bit of play in it the mechanic without investigating it further said needs to change the dizzy...is their anything we can fiz like a bearing of some sort ?

How can i check if i have internal or external coil if i need it replaced....dizzys are quite expensive in australia...!!! if i get a recycled part off a half-cut what should i watch out for ?

Prelude 93 Si VTEC JDM

Thanks

If the shaft has come loose, it may be the result of other problems (like a slight warp in the shaft). Most distributors don't use a bearing at the shaft -they ride in journals.
Which way is the "play" in the rotor? Can you move it side-to-side? In/out? Describe the looseness.
As for internal and external coil... If you have five spark plug wires (four going to plugs and the center one going to a module bolted to the back of the head), then you have an EXTERNAL coil.
If all you have is four wires, each leading to spark plugs, then you have an INTERNAL coil.
If you do have to replace the coil, have you checked Ebay? I know that shipping to Australia is going to be high, but maybe you can find one pretty cheap so that it's not too bad.

sounds like the bearing in the distributor is bad (common on hondas) if you pull the distrubutor off and spin it you will feel gritty or hard to turn and in worst case timming belts have jumped because it locking up if it's JDM lude it's got a internal coil . the UDSM market has enternal coil you can tell by the extra coil outside and the cap having 5 holes, the picture of the SOHC one you have there is the same internally (bearings, coil, ignitor) but has a diffrent bolt patern then the H22 motor.

they actually use a bushing not a bearing. mine seized up and i just replace the dist and the car started right up. your coil is probably fine. but if you want to check it there is simple resistance tests, if you want more info hit me up. there should be no movement in 'dizzy' shaft. replace.. and also if you ever loose spark and something went wrong in the dist. dont replace individual parts just do the whole fuckin thing. it controls injectors and firing and all that good shit
