Oil Pan Leak
I have a 97 SH and was told on my last oil change that the oil pan seal was wet and would eventually need repair. I have been told that there is no gasket on the 5th gens and that they use Hondabond as a sealant. How hard is it to drop the oil pan and reapply the sealant or would it be best to spend the 190.00 that honda wants to fix it?
Thanks
Thanks
first drain your oil.
there are atleast 12 nuts that you have to take off to remove the oil pan, there is also a bracket that holds up the pan to the trans housing, use a flathead screwdriver to pry the pan off, then pull out when you remove the pan use somthing to scrape off the the seal,do the same to the block, use some new sealant, push back up on. the hard part is reinstalling the pan is sometimes it can be a bitch to get the pan to sit correctly in the trans housing, but when you get it back up in reinstall the nuts, im not sure if there is a amount of time that is needed for it to dry, but i would give it atleast 2 hours before refilling the engine oil. fill and run, check for leaks
