Default What are some common issues with H22a4s?

Are there any common problems among h22s that need to be looked at? Im talking like small oil leaks etc etc. Reason I ask is because I have a small leak. It doesnt drip or anything yet but you can tell that something is wrong. I have had the timing belt service done and replaced all the seals there and also the oil pan gasket seal had to be replaced. After all that I still got a small leak and suggestions?

Common problems are that most h22's burn oil (more if you hit VTEC alot). Mine doesn't really burn any. Maybe a tiny bit, but not like others I talk to. Where is your leak? what do you mean "something is wrong"? And our oil pans don't have gaskets, I believe. I think it is a liquid gasket. Anyway, if you are having problems finding the leak, I think there is an ultraviolet reactive dye that you can add to your oil and then check for the leak with a blacklight at nighttime. If you can't find a leak, chances are that you are burning oil. It is pretty normal for H22's. If you are really worried about burning too much oil, do a compression test.

not all some use Honda bon sealant instead of a rubber gasket.
h22a do burn oil if you in vtec alot also the cam end seal behind the vtec solonoid leaks oil and is a pain to replace! also the auto-tensioner has been known to fail and cause the timing belt to jump thus bending valves.

I know they burn more oil when hitting vtec more often. Yes he is right about that gasket being liquid, I didnt specify that but they did replace with that liquid shit. All I can tell is oil is leaking from somewhere around that oil pan. I looks like I might need some more liquid gaskets put in there. Ill check it out later, but it is definitely leaking somewhere. Someone suggest a rear main seal or something like that, anyone know about those? Thanks for the replies.

Im thinking that may be the cam end seal behind the vtec solenoid. All I know is some seal is leaking and I have had the timing belt done about 15000 miles ago along with the new liquid gasket around my oil pan.

Well I just looked under there and it seems to be getting worse. Its starting to drip on the floor I got oil on the oil pan and on the transmission casing. Damn I hope that shit doesnt leak onto my timing belt, I just got that shit done not to long ago. Im going to have to take it to the dealership again after I just got a seized brake caliper fixed not only that I got a front wheel bearing starting to go and damn this car is getting old. Its a 97

Just something I found...Look between your valve cover and EGR valve, down in the little pocket between the two. I had the worst time finding a leak, replaced cam seal, valve cover gasket...ect...ended up, just below your valve cover, on the back of the head, there's a brass hex headed screw in an extra oil port, they seem to come loose after about 150k miles...lol, solved my issue...though I felt extemely stupid for not finding it first...

Symptom: Oil puddling near EGR valve
Fix: Tighted brass screw(See above)

I looked and sew the brass hex screw your talking about and it looks good. No oil or anything around it but your input was very helpful.
