The Honda aftermarket started before VTEC. The 84-87 Civic chassis started the craze.

not if you can build an engine right

because that B-series was only around from 88-91... that is the ONLY reason
my B20: call me out.

Thats ok Sunburn. I already sent a B20 head to the shop to get a port and polish. Amazing how small the ports are and even more amazing how MUCH you can bore out ;-) Also found a set of carbs that will work with some much larger jets. Im still on the fence about talking to Gude about a cam. Might just be better to get a custom grind high lift cam from someplace else.

Who says you need fuel injection? Looks to me like carbs worked fine for almost an entire decade.

Sorry, but your confuseing the b20a with the b21a. The reason the b21a burns oil isn't because of the R/S its because of the FRM sleeves. Honda used the wrong kind of rings with the FRM sleeves. The rings were to soft so the wore out quickly.

The b20a and b21a have a lot of over lap. You can make pretty decent gains with cam gear alone.
I got into the high 15's with just cam gears and a gutted cat.

Will cam gears made for the FI B20's work on my b20a3?

And as far as the FRM goes. Look at it this way. If you drop compression just replace the rings. Its likely the walls are still in pretty good shape.

No, they won't work with a b20a3. Its going to cost some $$$ to get decent gains. If you upgrade the cams your need to do something to the stock carbs. From what I understand the there pretty restritive. Webbers aren't cheap.

Depending on your skill level and dearing you could swap on a b20a5 head and keep the carb setup. That way you can get cams and headers. You can use mega squirt to run the ingition system. Hell with the mega squirt you could go FI or individual throttle body.
