Default Oil problem with Prelude

G'day everybody,

I've got a 5th gen prelude (year 2000) and she takes a pint of oil every month (for about 1 200 km). Is it normal or not ? she has 90 000 km and she's in pretty good shape. I always go to Honda for her maintenance. Her heart (engine) goes very well.

Can someone answer me please ?

Thanks,
Alex

Those engines are known for using a bit of oil.....are you driving it hard?

the h22a4 is designed to use oil, so dont worry its made for it. just have to keep good maintainance on it. I have a '99 lude. I have to add oil every so often as well.

Eh...I just let it go til all the oil is burned out of the engine and then add 5 quarts...who needs to do an oil change these days?

If you are hitting vtec a lot you will burn oil MUCH faster than usual. I just every week check my oil level...if it needs some, I add it, if not...it just means I just have to hit vtec more

just make sure your car is totally up to date on maintenance, keep an eye on the level and you're fine.

Well most 90’s Hondas had this tendency, particularly when driven at high RPM’s which the sportier ones obviously do. I see a big difference in oil consumption between gentle driving (long road trip cruising at 60mph) and aggressive driving (track days), although I would say my 5th Gen burns more oil than other 90’s Hondas I owned, B21A1 excepted. As long as you keep an eye on it it’s not really a big deal, but if you’re buying one of these cars you want to watch for signs of excessive oil consumption.

historically, I have heard a number of people say that their Preludes burn oil; however, I have only added oil during oil changes to my 1994 BB2
