I hate to dredge up an old post...but hopefully it will inform some people of the use of "Flushing" the motor.

"Does my Honda's oil system require periodic flushing?

American Honda strongly recommends against this process, which is sometimes called "engine flushing." Any engine damage resulting from this procedure will not be covered under warranty."

Thankfully I didn't flush my engine.

DON'T FLUSH! you want your motor to have lubrication running through it, not harsh cleaners. would you drink soap?! besides, Honda built the damned thing, i think they have a pretty good idea of what it likes and what it doesn't. 54k is the perfect time to switch to synthetic. i just switched my ls teg over at 171, and no problems. the car's running great. i have heard that mobil tends to burn a little faster than castrol syntec, for some reason, but h22s tend to burn oil anyway. just do your regular oil change, with an oem (DEALER ONLY) filter, and your choice of synthetic oil. enjoy.

good idea, i just put a replacement h23a in my lude, but before i did i changed out the oil pan with my motor, and both of them were real nasty. i would get a new gasket, just for peice of mind.

bluelude, you mean they're the cheap stuff, right? for dino oil, i wouldn't use anything but castrol, or the stuff you get from the honda dealer.

Thread Resurrection

Pepboys was running a deal this weekend for motor oil and filters. A case of Pennzoil and 2 Purolator oil filters came out to ~$8 AR. I had my brother pick it up because I was out of town but he picked up the 10W-30. I checked with the Prelude owner's manual and it said 10W-30 can be used "if the temp in your area never goes below 20F". Well, southern california is never going to get that cold, but I was wondering if anyone uses 10W-30 and noticed any difference from the 5W-30.
