89 Prelude Si swap info...
...i need some swap info for a friend...tried the search all it brought up was civic info...anyways my friend is buying an 89 Si w/the b20...the heads are warped and he needs some help. he's looking at a couple different options right now: swap the h22a, swap a b18c1 or c5, or new heads...on the h22a swap what exactly is needed? on the b18 swap what exactly is needed? and on changing out the heads i've heard that you can make a frankenstien engine by putting the b18 or h22a head on the b20 block...is this true? if it is would putting together an engine be easier and cheaper than getting the whole engine? thanks for any help/info you can give...

Aight, Well I haven't heard of a B20 bottom and a H22 Head, for a 3rd gen I have seen and H23 bottom and a H22 Head, that swap is straight up, I havent heard of swapping the whole H22 engine into a 3rd gen. but anythings possible, from my knowledge this is what you will need.
1.) New Tranny, either H23 or H22
2.) New Engine, either H23 or H22, either whole H22 or H23 bottom-H22 Head(good luck on finding an H23 in the first place)
3.) New CV joints
4.) Appropriate ECU and wiring harness
5.) Then weld and cut to get all that shit to fit in a 3rd gen.
Don't know anything about B18 you might want to try the Civic or Integra forums.
Good Luck

b20 block with h22 head is not really viable. you can do a CR-VTEC, which is a b20 block with a b16 or b18c head. frankenstein motors like that are not smog legal in cali tho. i looked into this a while back. there's some good info on honda-tech. basically it's a pain in the ass. the b20 in the 3rd gen leans back a bit, which makes fitment of other engines very complicated. i don't think a gsr motor will clear the hood either. i would imagine a b16 or b18c swap or a frankenstein motor would be your best bet.
keep in mind, i'm just relaying what information i've picked up so far, so i may have some (or all) of this stuff wrong. be sure to double check everything before you pull the trigger on this.
props for trying, i think a 3rd gen vtec lude would be awesome! those cars handle like a dream, and with a gsr motor in there, they'd fly!

not encouraging...

looks like you're better off putting a CR-V b20 block with a gsr head into the prelude. the prelude block looks like a nightmare to vtec.

i know there's info about putting a complete gsr into the 3rd gen lude, i found it before. i'll see if i can track it down for you.

Droppin the H22 in it would probably be the best bet, it's a more common swap, and the parts needed for it are readily available. But it's gonna be a tight fit. tell your fiend to open up a lil room, and gain some extra power, consider losing the A/C. check out enjo for the mounts.
For the frankenstein hybrid, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you have to swap the head bolts around, requires some machine work.
If you decide to just beef up the B20, make sure you get a reliable head gasket, B20's are notorious for blowing them.
and a lil personal preference, use redline oils, they're proven to free up some free power.
You should check out reace engineering's site, really halpful people <<<raceeng.com>>> tell em BIBO sent ya.
