Being "mean" is a way to keep dicipline on the boards or else they become too loose like other boards. If there isn't any flamming then people would make too many useless / stupid / non-descriptive / repetative / post where a search button could answer. Flaming keeps the world go round, to an extinct.

If the belt is that old, get it replaced. If that solves the problem, then wonderful. If not, you just prevented some horrible things from happening.

Generally, there are no signs of your timing belt wearing or breaking prior to it happening, it is immediate and sudden with no warning whatsoever. So keep track of your milage and have it changed when the service limit as been reached. If you don't know when the last time your belt was changed, either contact the previous owned or be safe and get it replaced.

As far as the weird sound, your going to have to get us more info in order for us to find a resolution.

Wierd nose might be the auto-tensioner, or something like that. I know that replacing my timing belt got rid of some whirling, chirping engine noises.

on a motor w/ 175k miles, weird noises could be almost anything.
and WHY are you going to invest all this money on a car w/ that much miles anyway?
i would guess that you would want to rebuild the motor first, or at least recondition everything before going through a auto to manual tranny swap, which would also confuse the ecu, and etc.
also you don't even have your license???
is this a TL 6 speed?
This is a complete waste of time.
