Default Lude coolant problems

Hi Everyone,

Okay I'm new to this Prelude fraternity. After a lot of searching around for a track car I decided to buy a 94' (fourth gen?) 2.3i 4WS (sorry, I wanted a vtec but couldn't find one in budget with less than a million miles on it). It looked really clean and as far as I can tell pretty standard, with the exception of a big (loud) exhaust system, and drives great.

I have got one cause for concern though. On hot days after hard driving I get hot coolant coming out of the top of the overflow reservoir. There is no seal in the cap (is that right?) and it appears to just be forced out which means i have to fill it up again. The temperature gauge doesn't go about halfway, the fan kicks in periodically, the coolant looks clean and the oil looks fine. The radiator has an odd few broken veins but looks ok and the cap fits tightly.

Anyone got any ideas about what could be causing this or what else to check? Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks,
Ray

may be a blockage in the system. where is your temperature gauge when you drive on hot days. it is somewhat normal to have the coolant boil over a few times but not consistantly. i am not sure about the seal on the overflow tank, maybe others can provide that info.

Thanks for replying. The temperature gauge goes up about half way after about 5-10 mins of driving and then stays pretty constant. It looks the same on hot or cold days but so far I've only had it happen twice and on both days it was pretty hot (for here anyway) - coincidence?

The system is probably just too full. Next time it overflows, don't fill it back up. When the car is cool, the overflow reservoir should only be like a 1/3 of the way full.

Thanks guys I've removed some of the fluid from the overflow and I'll look into possible blockages this weekend.

the overflow tank is just for that, overflow, it shouldn't be filled up, maybe 1/3 of the way but thats it
