Optimum power is made by shifting at redline.

The sport shift is still an automatic, so you will most likely get your ass handed to you if his is a manual.

VTEC kicks in around 5500, if you can keep it above that you should be good. I don't know how this works with an automatic, but it's easily done in a stick.

his is an automatic, and so your saying I should just keep it in automatic instead of manual because it wouldnt be any faster in manual?

No, Sport Shifter is not manual by any means. It may be slightly faster in Sport Shift mode, but you are still using the setup of an automatic transmission (and other components) and are limited by that. The sport shifter would probably give you the advantage over a standard automatic.

OK so keep it in Sport Shift mode and start out at 5500 rpm and shift in red line would be the best?

5500 is about where VTEC starts, don't start in neutral at 5500 and drop it into first. Best way to learn is go to a track that measures reaction time and try it out a few times.

VTEC engages at 5250. SS is gonna be slow no matter what you do.
