my 2.3vtec build
well on its way...finally!!
i had spent about a week calling cross country for jdm prelude type s pistons in the .25mm oversize. most everyone sells pistons alone for 250-300 + shipping. and almost 200 for rings on top of that. i happened to be hit with some luck and picked up a clearance set from pole position in canada. his price for regular fedex was 220shipped...WITH RINGS!! however i needed them asap so i opt'd for the overnight shipping at 270 and i had them at 10am the next morning. great great service. ask for howard...however, like i said, i got the last set hehe.
anywho, since im usually on other boards i'll highlight what im doing for your guys. (i used to be on this board when it first lit up) car is a 93 si 4ws. i snapped the original 2.3's crank in half running a mid 80's rx7. in went a jdm 2.2vtec from nippon motors in ca. 1500 shipped wasn't a bad investment to get me going again with a lil more pep.
lately my compression has been dropping so i had a rebuild in mind for a while. i just got started on it 2 weeks ago. i have the motor apart and the block at the shop. in the northeast philly area, speed equipment inc on street road is the place to go. they do everything i need done, and they had the best prices of everyone else i called as well. right now they have my block, pistons, rings, and rods.
my plans are as follows:
stroke the jdm 2.2vtec with factory honda 2.3 parts. 2.3 crank and rods(shotpeened) mated with new jdm prelude type s pistons. bottom end reciprocating pieces will be balanced, also done at speed equipment inc.(also 2.3 balancer, clutchmaster flywheel, act clutch) and of course all the maintenance, and wearable parts(most of them) are being replaced...pumps, belts, bearings, bolts, etc. also, i WILL be using the vtec oil jets.
im just doing the bottom end right now, the head is cleaned and i've put in webcams titanium retainers. i have the complete set of springs/seats, etc but i'll wait until i have cams for all of it to go in. if this build proves to be powerful for me and have good longevity, then i'll continue further with the build up. of course, going n/a, no plans for nitrous but doesn't mean i won't play with a friends kit
compared to other dynos for 2.3vtec build like this im hoping for something over 180whp. this will hold me over for a lil while...just a little while. but im just posting an update, and i hope to update again soon with good news

was it 1500 for the motor & ecu? how did the install on that go? fairly easy?My 2.3 is on it's last leg, and since the H22 is the best N/A motor for the lude, I want to do this swap soon. Also, If I get a clutch/lightened flywheel setup for my H23, will they be compatible with the H22? My stock clutch is completely worthless.
armadillo 12.5 holy fark. are you on full engine management? or factory ecm? i was told that 12:1 was pushing it on the honda ecm. i think i remember you're the 2.3 n/vtec right? yea i was told 180 for the build with type s with everything else factory, hopefully my i/h/e ignition, blah blah will pump it up more.
k.a.y 1500 was the motor alone. i got the ecm for 275 from some really nice guy in ny. overnighted it to me free of charge. he had a couple of them. but safe to say, since it was years ago, he has no more. but yea, 15 for the long block alone.

you and me both. yea im guessing i should invest in cam gears now, before i go to dyno tune her. any hookups?
another problem with the tuning is i dont have any timing marks on my flywheel, clutchmasters. im gonna ask the machine shop if there's something they could do. any ideas? someone told me to just bring to tdc and make a line...i dunno
