Default Just bought '01 Prelude

I just bought a '01 prelude, 31k miles for $15k. Automatic though, kinda wish I had bought a manual. . . Anyway, looking for advice on how best to drive it and I would like to make some mods. I am thinking about an alarm and soundsystem for sure, but also some speed enhancements. Any advice is more than welcome.

AUTO!!!! geez! hehe. I would recommend you get an intake, catback exhaust and header. That will give you some good power on the freeways but if you plan to race anyone from a stop, prepare to get your ass handed to you every single time between similar HP manuals.

no worries. . . you seem like a good bunch of guys, i knew it was a joke... although i kinda agree, a stick would have been faster and funner. def getting the intake soon, going to try to make it to HIN this weekend.

i noticed that sometimes, it feels like there is resistance when i put it into reverse. . . that aint normal, is it?

Tho mine is FOR SALE and I do love the SS tranny-I can only say that you must drive it with some care. Remember that it is NOT designed for neutral dumps or peeling out. In fact, the computers will limit your ability to do that. In SS mode the car is really fun to drive. It will shift very quickly. Just remember that it downshifts as you slow to a stop and will be in 1st when you leave a light.

For the naysayers who have 5 speeds-enjoy your rides. For those of us with SS trannys we too can enjoy-just in a different way.

I will advise you to have the transmission FULLY flushed at a dealer-NOW. Unless you have the complete service history for the car there is no way that you can be sure of anything about it. The SS gearbox requires one of 2 types of service. The drain and fill (3 quarts) is just that and removes little to no debris (normal contaminants). The full service reverse flushes 7 quarts and you will see and feel the difference.

Other things to take care of include a valve adjustment and coolant flush. You should also consider flushing the brake fluid (2year intervals are recommended). I have these things done because it is good maintenance practice. With a used car it is even more important to have a starting point that you can be sure of.

Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Unless the Honda dealer does NOT have a good BBB rating-they are pretty good at what they will do for you. Honda does oversee dealerships that have poor histories and withdraws the franchise. I am sure that there are those that will disagree with me for one reason or another. However-this particular service is best done using the Honda approved equipment. Here in my area we have several dealers and it is my selling shop that I go to-they know me and you can literally eat off the floor. I don't know about Cali-but we also have a program thru AAA that certifies shops-that too is a good way to decide who should work on your car. Just my 2 cents and ##years of car ownership. BTW: The average price for the full flush is ~$100.
Got other Q's drop me an e-mail.
